Russia Spreading 5G Health Risk Propaganda?

Russia, Putin, Accused of Spreading 5G Health Risks Propaganda

Washington “disinformation consulting firms” are calling shenanigans on a recent RT.com piece that asserts 5G radiowaves might cause health issues. While many activists believe that 5G health risks are scientifically documented, critics now believe that Russia is interfering in U.S. technological innovation. The new accusations sound eerily similar to accusations made following President Donald Trump’s 2016 election victory.

The Russian network RT America’s segment, “A Dangerous ‘Experiment on Humanity,’” features several experts who claim that 5G is harmful to human health. U.S. officials believe that RT perpetuated false narratives as a way to get Donald Trump elected. Now they feel RT’s recent 5G health risk piece is attempting to subvert wireless advancements. Experts believe that 5G technology will advance initiatives in military defense, the medical industry, and big tech. But critics have consistently lambasted 5G as a danger to health. Portland, Oregon’s mayor blocked the installation of 5G networks. The country of Switzerland set up a 5G monitoring group that says it will release all findings to the public. Parents in California long claimed that a single 5G tower was responsible for an uptick in childhood cancer. Sprint eventually removed the tower.

“Just a small one,” an RT journalist explained to her viewers. “It might kill you.”

But technology firms which “track disinformation” are accusing RT of participating in meddling, once again.

“It’s economic warfare,” Ryan Fox, chief operating officer of New Knowledge, said in a recent interview. “Russia doesn’t have a good 5G play, so it tries to undermine and discredit ours.”

Russia and Putin “would really enjoy getting democratic governments tied up in fights over 5G’s environmental and health hazards,” said Molly McKew, head of Fianna Strategies, a consulting firm in Washington, D.C. that monitors and fights Russian disinformation.

A 2017 report reveals that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence believes that RT is the Kremlin’s principal international propaganda outlet.”

RT America has aired at least seven anti-5G episodes this year. The show has accused 5G of causing cancer and disabilities.

Putin signed off on a series of Russian 5G network devices in his country, something that U.S. “disinformation” groups cite as evidence of manipulation. RT says that its American segment is intended to focus on American issues.

Disinformation groups claim that U.S. based blogs picking up RT America stories involving 5G health risks are actively helping to spread propaganda.

But it’s important to realize that RT America didn’t start the assault on 5G technology. And anti-5G technology positions are certainly not condensed to only the United States. As noted above, Switzerland is monitoring 5G health risks.

But the more significant concern may be censorship agendas. If “disinformation groups” create a narrative that Russia is spreading false narratives about 5G, big tech companies such as Facebook could move to censor anti-5G information.
